Once you have a Subversion installation running, you can create your repository. For the purposes of this chapter let s assume that you will set up just one repository. There are three locations you need to think about when setting up to use Subversion. We've already covered the repository and the working copy. The third is the original location of the code. You might think that you can simply take an existing project and turn it into a Subversion-managed project. You can do this, but it doesn't work particularly well in practice, and the smoothest way to do it is to think of these as different locations. Let's look at the process (illustrated in Figure 10 3) for a typical project.

In previous chapters we have seen two paradigms for machine learning: inductive learning and analytical learning Inductive methods, such as decision tree induction and neural network BACKPROPAGATION, general hypotheses that fit the seek observed training data Analytical methods, such as PROLOG-EBG, seek general hypotheses that fit prior knowledge while covering the observed data These two learning paradigms are based on fundamentally different justifications for learned hypotheses and offer complementary advantages and disadvantages Combining them offers the possibility of more powerful learning methods
